The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom offers an extra fifth sage that most players tend to miss, Mineru. Unlike the other four main dungeons, you can unlock Mineru by visiting one of the thunderhead islands above the Faron region and completing its associated quests in the Depths. Mineru’s sage avatar takes the form of a Zonai whose spirit resides in a large construct mech that you build for her and control. As exciting as it sounds, proper usage of Mineru’s construct can be a little tricky. In this guide, we cover some tips on how you can utilize the Vow of Mineru in Tears of the Kingdom.
Controlling Mineru’s Construct
Traversing with Mineru
At nearly any time you have Mineru out, you can walk up to her construct and press A to control it directly. The construct moves fairly slowly by default, but it can safely traverse gloom, lava, and other harmful substances. The construct also negates any fall damage you may have otherwise taken, and it helps eliminate the need to use vehicles or other means of travel when confronted with these hazards.
Furthermore, the construct’s movement abilities are augmented by a few specific Zonai devices, such as the fan and rocket. You can fuse these objects on either of the construct’s hands or its back. Attaching a fan allows the construct to move faster by pressing Y, while the rocket lifts it up to higher places like a shield attached to Link.
Whenever you move or do anything while controlling the construct, your Zonai energy meter decreases gradually. To avoid this situation, you can either collect Zonai charges or increase the Energy Wells count.
Controlling the Construct’s Arms
The construct’s hands can hold most weapons and items, with the L button controlling the left hand and the R button controlling the right hand. The left hand can equip a Bokoblin Horn or a broadsword, and the right hand can hold a ranged Zonai device such as a cannon or a hydrant.
The melee attacks from the corresponding arms cause a long recovery animation that you have to wait through before doing another attack. Still, you can chain up to three melee swipes in quick succession by alternating between the L and R buttons.
If you attach a ranged Zonai device, the construct’s melee attack is replaced by an aiming feature. Hitting the assigned button lets players aim the Zonai device’s associated projectile with the right stick, giving them more versatility while using Zonai devices from a distance.
The construct’s arms can also prove useful for menial tasks like mining ore, without risking any of Link’s equipped weapons. Furthermore, attaching cannons helps in destroying the large rocks found in caves, and attaching a hydrant could easily make cleaning up the gunk in the Lanayru region.
Combat with the Construct
When riding Mineru’s construct, it can be overwhelming to engage mob enemies due to the slow and lumbering movement of the construct. However, the construct can negate most enemy attacks by bringing up a shield with the ZL button. With silver variants of Bokoblins and other similar monsters, it is better to pin them against a wall to land consistent hits, although large rocks found in caves can easily be destroyed by attaching cannons.
Getting off of the Construct
Mineru’s construct works best as a complement rather than a substitute for Link’s abilities. Therefore, whenever it’s time to hop off the construct, hit the jump button before pressing A to dismount. It may be clunky at first, but players can easily build the muscle memory for it over time.
