Confirmation: Starfield Will Offer Physical Disc for Xbox Standard Edition
After some confusion, Bethesda has clarified that the highly anticipated game Starfield will indeed have a physical disc available. The physical disc will be included with the Xbox Standard Edition, allowing Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One players to have the option of owning a physical copy of the game. However, PC players will not have this option and will only receive a game code upon purchasing the standard edition, as stated in a recent Starfield blog post.
This confirmation comes after a recent debacle on Twitter that caused confusion among fans. Bethesda initially addressed questions about the availability of a physical disc for Starfield in a blog post back in June, but a tweet from Bethesda Support seemed to contradict this. The tweet stated that all physical editions only include a code and no physical discs, but it was later deleted.
Fortunately, Bethesda has now cleared up the confusion and confirmed that Xbox players will indeed have the option to choose a physical copy of Starfield if they prefer.
The blog post also provided more details about the different editions of Starfield, including the Standard Edition, which includes just the base game, and the Premium Edition, which offers early access, the shattered space story expansion (upon release), constellation skin pack, and access to a digital art book. The Constellation Edition includes all of these, as well as a steelbook display case, constellation patch, and Starfield Chronomark Watch and Case.
Early access for Starfield will begin “up to five days before launch,” but Bethesda acknowledges the possibility of outages affecting the actual play time, indicating that they are prepared for any potential initial difficulties.
While it may disappoint PC players, the availability of a physical disc for Xbox consoles is a positive development. It demonstrates that there is still a demand for physical copies of games, despite the prevailing opinion.
