Pokémon Go’s Squirtle Community Day Classic: What You Need to Know
Pokémon Go enthusiasts, get ready for the upcoming Squirtle Community Day Classic event! On July 9, from 2-5 p.m. in your local time, Squirtle will be spawning in large numbers, giving you a high chance to catch a shiny version of this beloved Pokémon. Along with the increased spawn rates, there are also other exciting bonuses and perks that you’ll want to take advantage of. Here’s everything you need to know about this event:
How to Catch a Shiny Squirtle
If you’re wondering how to increase your chances of catching a shiny Squirtle, we’ve got some helpful tips for you. According to research by The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine), shiny rates during Community Days are approximately 1 in 25. This means that if you play actively throughout the event’s three-hour window, you should encounter quite a few shiny Pokémon, including Squirtle.
To maximize your chances, make sure to use Incense and tap each Squirtle quickly to check for shinies. If a Squirtle isn’t shiny, simply move on. One useful trick is to remember that previously tapped Squirtles will face your player’s direction, making it easier to keep track of the ones you’ve already checked.
How to Catch a Squirtle with Sunglasses
If you’re hoping to add a sunglasses-wearing Squirtle to your collection, you won’t find them in the wild during the event. According to Niantic’s official page for the Squirtle Community Day Classic, sunglasses-wearing Squirtles will be obtainable through event Field Research. This research task will require you to catch Squirtles, so be sure to spin PokéStops to pick up the necessary research quests.
Community Day Move for Squirtle’s Evolution
Evolve your Wartortle into Blastoise between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in your local time during the event to teach it the powerful charged move Hydro Cannon. If you miss out on evolving your Wartortle during this time, don’t worry. You can still use an Elite TM to obtain the move later on.
Blastoise in the Meta
While Blastoise may not be the top-tier option anymore, its Mega Evolution, Mega Blastoise, has become one of the strongest water-type attackers in Pokémon Go. If you’re considering investing in Mega Pokémon, be sure to get a powerful Blastoise with Water Gun and Hydro Cannon moves. Blastoise also performs well in the Ultra League due to its bulk and the strength of Hydro Cannon.
Make the Most of Squirtle Community Day Classic
To make the most out of the Squirtle Community Day Classic event, take note of the following bonuses that will be active:
- 1/4 hatch distance for eggs placed into Incubators during the event
- Incense lasts for three hours
- Lure Modules last for three hours
- Squirtle special photobombs when you take snapshots
Take advantage of these bonuses by placing all your eggs into Incubators during the event and using Incense to attract more Pokémon. Additionally, if you have the ability to Mega Evolve Blastoise, Slowbro, Gyarados, or Swampert, you’ll receive extra Squirtle Candy for each catch.
