All of the powers are the same for all four characters, except for the White Emerald. Some powers are used for movement, while others can assist allies.

In an exclusive Game Informer interview with Sonic Team’s Creative Officer Takashi Iizuka, we now have the details on the special abilities that Sonic and his friends will gain from the Emerald Powers, which are extracted from Chaos Emeralds found in Special Stages.
Here is the complete list of Sonic Superstars Emerald Powers, each tied to a specific Chaos Emerald, according to the source. There are a total of seven Emeralds.
- Blue Emerald – Avatar: Creates multiple clones of the character and defeats almost any enemy, which is useful for bosses.
- Red Emerald – Bullet: Allows the character to blast in any direction, even while mid-air.
- Cyan Emerald – Water: Enables easy navigation through underwater sections and the ability to climb waterfalls.
- Green Emerald – Ivy: Generates vines from the character’s position, allowing them to reach higher areas.
- Purple Emerald – Vision: Reveals hidden platforms and rings.
- Yellow Emerald – Slow: Slows down time, making it easier to overcome challenges.
- White Emerald – Extra: Character-specific ability.
Now let’s take a look at the character abilities granted by the White Emerald. To use this emerald’s power, it must be selected and activated:
- Sonic – Homing Attack: Classic Sonic gains his modern homing attack.
- Amy – Hammer Throw: Amy can literally throw her hammer at enemies.
- Knuckles – Punch: Knuckles can deliver powerful punches to anything and everything.
- Tails – Tornado Spin: Tails creates a tornado that takes out enemies in its path.
Game Informer’s exclusive also confirms that all characters can transform into their Super version once all seven Chaos Emeralds are collected. Additionally, upon unlocking all seven Emeralds, players will have the option to choose which power they want to use.
