DICE has confirmed that the highly anticipated Update 5.2 for Battlefield 2042 will be rolling out next week. This update brings several exciting changes and improvements to the game, including a “map rework” of Hourglass. Players can expect enhanced line of sight, traversal, and combat encounters now that the size of the map has been reduced. In addition, there will be all-out warfare attachments for vault weapons SMGs and LMGs, improved squad management through better squad orders, enhanced ammo crates, and dispersion tweaks to SMGs and LMGs.
The decision to shrink the Hourglass map was made to keep combat focused while providing players with more opportunities to defend themselves through added cover. The team at DICE is grateful for the player feedback and patience as they worked on these improvements. They are excited to get this game update in the hands of players and are eager to hear their thoughts on the Hourglass map.
Aside from the map rework, the update also addresses persistent audio issues, improves soldier AI, and introduces tweaks to the Battlefield Portal. For a full list of improvements, players can visit the official Battlefield 2042 website.
Following the disastrous launch of the game in November 2021, EA took steps to reshape the development of Battlefield. Support studios Industrial Toys, Ripple Effect Studios, and Ridgeline Studios were brought in, with the franchise now being led by Respawn’s Vince Zampella. DICE has acknowledged the lessons learned from Battlefield 2042 and has promised to make significant changes for the next installment in the series, currently in development.
