Final Fantasy 14: Latest Patch Allows Main Story Solo Play

The latest patch for Final Fantasy 14 has made it possible for players to experience the game’s main questline solo. Patch 6.5 introduces the Duty Support system, allowing players to progress from A Realm Reborn to the latest Endwalker expansion without relying on other online players (via VGC).

Introduced in patch 6.1, Duty Support enables players to tackle dungeons alongside NPCs, eliminating the need to queue with other players. This feature has been well received, particularly by newcomers who no longer have to endure long queues for older dungeons.

With each patch, Square Enix has been gradually adding more compatible duties to the Duty Support system. Patch 6.5 marks a significant milestone as it includes the final dungeons, allowing players to complete the entire main questline using Duty Support.

It is important to note that Duty Support is only available for dungeons and not trials or raids. For these instances, players will need to queue normally. However, the waiting times are significantly shorter for trials and raids due to the higher number of players they require.

For those who prefer a solo experience, the Duty Support system eliminates the need to queue for dungeons. To access Duty Support, simply select “Duty Support” from the main menu or at the entrance of an applicable dungeon.

This system is particularly useful for players tackling dungeons for the first time. The accompanying NPCs will have knowledge of the boss’s move sets and positions, providing a valuable opportunity for practice.

Patch 6.5, titled ‘Growing Light’, launched on October 3 and introduces a wealth of new content, including main scenario quests, Myths of the Realm Part Three: Thaleia, job adjustments, and more. Additionally, the update expands the game’s free trial, allowing players to experience the base game, Heavensward, and Stormblood up to level 70. Stormblood has also become available in the game’s Starter Edition, granting owners of that version access to the first two expansions for free.

This update is the initial part of the final patch leading up to the release of the next expansion, Dawntrail, scheduled for summer 2024 along with Xbox Series X|S compatibility.
