Destiny 2: Onslaught maps, ranked
I’ve been thoroughly enjoying my time playing Onslaught in Destiny 2: Into the Light, and amidst all the action, some key factors will undoubtedly play a role in determining the top map out of the three currently available. Let’s dive into the details.
Mothyards: The easiest to learn and survive in
Upon spawning in the Cosmodrome map of Mothyards, the vast openness of the area becomes immediately apparent. This map offers a generous amount of space, allowing for freedom of movement and strategic positioning to defend against the oncoming enemy mobs from various directions. Unlike Midtown, Mothyards also provides ample verticality, enabling players to utilize vantage points without feeling overwhelmed when facing bosses or explosive enemies.
Due to its openness, Mothyards offers the longest firing range for weapons, making it ideal for farming long-range weapon kills. Therefore, I recommend using Mothyards for the following weapon quests:
- Jury Duty (Hung Jury SR4) (Scout Rifle)
- Right of Succession (Succession) (Sniper Rifle)
- Stranger Danger (Elsie’s Rifle) (Pulse Rifle)
Midtown: Getting swarmed is not fun
Midtown can best be described as a fast-paced and adrenaline-heavy map that is not for the faint of heart. This close-quartered map limits opportunities to defend the ADU compared to Mothyards, as enemies are often obstructed by corners and buildings. Players will find themselves within optimal range only when facing mobs at midrange, not to mention the appearance of imposing bosses.
Despite its challenging nature, Midtown provides the easiest scenario for accumulating AoE kills among the three Onslaught maps. While it may not be the ideal map for conquering 50 waves, it facilitates completion of the following weapon quests:
- Edgelord (Edge Transit) (Grenade Launcher)
Vostok: Perfectly balanced, as all things should be
For those seeking a blend of openness and chaos, Vostok presents a unique fusion of Mothyards’ expansiveness and Midtown’s frenetic energy. While not my top choice among the three maps, Vostok offers a balanced challenge for players who have mastered Mothyards and are looking to add a dash of variability without overwhelming difficulty.
With the best of both worlds, Vostok is suited for versatile weaponry ranging from mid to close range. Players are advised to utilize weapons with perks like Incandescent to effectively combat enemies in corridors and leverage Swords for melee attacks while retaining room for maneuvering.
- Recluse Endangerement (The Recluse) (Submachine Gun)
- Spin to Win (Falling Guillotine) (Sword)
While Mothyards may offer the highest survivability, the other maps should not be overlooked when striving to complete Brave weapon challenges – and ultimately acquire the Superblack Shader. To truly grasp the essence of Onslaught, I recommend experiencing all three maps firsthand to witness the action unfold.
