Pokémon Go has announced an upcoming Bounsweet Community Day event scheduled for Sunday, May 19, from 2-5 p.m. in your local time.
During the Community Day event, players can expect a surge in Bounsweet spawns with an increased chance of encountering shiny versions. Along with this, there are several other bonuses and perks that players can take advantage of.
Tips for Capturing a Shiny Bounsweet
According to past research from The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine), the shiny rates during Community Days are approximately 1 in 24 encounters. This means that players who actively participate throughout the three-hour window should have a good chance of encountering multiple shiny Pokémon.
For a quicker search for shiny Bounsweet, consider using an Incense to attract Pokémon and swiftly check each Bounsweet for shininess, moving on from non-shiny ones. Notably, Bounsweet previously tapped will be facing your player’s direction, aiding in tracking which ones you’ve already examined.
Exclusive Move for Bounsweet’s Evolution on Community Day
When evolving Steenee into Tsareena between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. in your local time, it will learn the special move High Jump Kick.
Alternatively, players who miss this evolution window can likely evolve Tsareena during a Community Day weekend event later in December to acquire High Jump Kick. For those unwilling to wait, an Elite TM can be used to teach Tsareena the move.
Tsareena’s Performance in the Meta
In PvE scenarios such as raids and gyms, Tsareena falls below the ranks of powerhouse attackers like Kartana and various Shadow and Mega starters (Mega Sceptile, Mega Venusaur, Shadow Venusaur, Shadow Torterra, etc.). However, Tsareena holds its ground alongside Roserade and Chesnaught in terms of performance. Players who prefer using these Pokémon and are hesitant to invest in Megas, Legendaries, or Shadows may find Tsareena useful with its moves Magical Leaf and Grass Knot.
While High Jump Kick offers some versatility in PvP battles, Tsareena may not be the top choice for general usage outside of specialized tournaments and cups.
Maximizing Bounsweet Community Day Benefits
During Bounsweet Community Day, players can enjoy the following bonuses:
- 1⁄4 reduction in hatch distance for eggs incubated during the event
- Double candy rewards for capturing Pokémon
- Increased chance for trainers at level 31 and above to obtain XL candy from catching Pokémon
- Extended duration of Incense to three hours
- Extended duration of Lure Modules to three hours
- Bounsweet special photobombs when using snapshots
- One additional special trade allowance
- Halved Stardust cost for trading Pokémon
To make the most of these bonuses, prioritize placing eggs in Incubators, activating an Incense, and capturing powerful Bounsweet.
For players capable of Mega Evolving Venusaur, Sceptile, Groudon, or Abomasnow, extra Bounsweet Candy per catch can be earned.
Additionally, Niantic is hosting special four-star raids from 5-10 p.m., where defeating the Steenee raid will trigger increased Bounsweet spawns within a 300-meter radius of the gym for 30 minutes. These raids must be completed in person. If the standard spawn rate from 2-5 p.m. doesn’t yield the desired Bounsweet, participating in raids offers an additional chance.
