Player First Games and Warner Bros. Set to Relaunch MultiVersus with Free Content
Player First Games and Warner Bros. made a risky decision last year by deciding to put its platform fighter MultiVersus on hiatus and pull it from digital stores–especially when some players had spent real-world money on characters and cosmetics. With MultiVersus set to return next week, Player First has revealed what returning players can expect to see when they log in to the game for the first time.
Speaking with GameSpot during a recent preview session, Huynh confirmed that “all characters and cosmetics players purchased before May 28 will still be there when [players] come back to the game.” That’s not all, however, as Huynh also confirmed some new content will be offered free of charge to those who choose to return.
Free Battle Pass for Early Returners
Also, any players who return within the first two weeks of the game’s relaunch–from May 28 to June 11–will also receive the first battle pass and its 70 levels of cosmetics, currency, and characters for no additional charge. That includes an instant unlock of the pass’s level one perk: Jason Voorhees as a playable character.
Essentially, if they unlocked the entire roster during the open beta period, any returning players who log into the game before June 11 will only have to unlock one character, Joker, once they’re in the game. All previously unlocked characters, as well as two brand-new characters, will be available on day one. “We understand how players would feel,” Huynh said when asked about this “welcome back” package, “and we’re trying to make good on that.”
During our preview session, we got to try out Joker, Jason, and Banana Guard, as well as run through a few challenges in Rifts, MultiVersus’s new PvE mode. We also spoke to Huynh about the risks in going on a long hiatus, how development has changed in the year since the game was removed, and more.
MultiVersus returns to digital storefronts May 28 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
