All Silent Hill 2 preorders for PS5 include two wearable masks for the game’s protagonist, James. Players will receive the Mira the Dog mask and the exclusive Robbie the Rabbit mask for PS5 preorders, while PC players will receive the dog mask with their preorder.

For $70, players can preorder a physical copy of the Silent Hill 2 remake for PS5 at various video game retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, GameStop, and Target. Digital preorders for PS5 and PC are available on the PlayStation Store and Steam. It seems that the preorder bonuses are exclusive to the digital version.

A digital deluxe edition is also available for $80, offering 48-hour early access starting on October 6, a digital art book and soundtrack, a pizza box mask, and the additional two bonus masks for PS5 (one for PC).

Game Updates and Features

The Silent Hill 2 remake boasts updated graphics and sound, with expanded environments in the town of Silent Hill to provide players with more exploration opportunities. A new over-the-shoulder camera replaces the original fixed-view, aligning the game with modern player movement expectations.

The combat system has also been revamped, with familiar weapons like the steel pipe and handgun featuring updated mechanics. Players can now avoid attacks with well-timed dodges, aim down sights, and engage in more immersive and tense monster encounters.

The game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 by the Polish studio Bloober Team, known for their work on horror titles such as Layers of Fear, The Medium, and Blair Witch, as well as the cyberpunk adventure game Observer.

Konami’s Resurrection Efforts

The Silent Hill 2 remake is part of Konami’s broader strategy to revive the dormant horror franchise, alongside projects like Silent Hill: Ascension, Silent Hill F, and Silent Hill: Townfall. This resurgence in survival horror remakes is evident in other recent projects, such as EA’s Dead Space remake in 2023 and Capcom’s series of Resident Evil remakes, including the acclaimed Resident Evil 4 revision.

It’s not just Silent Hill receiving a revival, as Konami is also working on Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a ground-up remake of the classic PS2 title Metal Gear Solid 3 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
