Netflix Unveils Tomb Raider Animated Series
Netflix has provided fans with a glimpse of its upcoming animated series, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.
Scheduled to premiere on the streaming platform this autumn, the show stars Hayley Atwell from the MCU as the voice of Lara Croft. Set after the events of the Tomb Raider Survivor trilogy, which includes Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
“Following the events of the Survivor Trilogy, Lara Croft (voiced by Hayley Atwell) has abandoned her friends to embark on increasingly more perilous solo adventures,” the official blurb reads. “But she must return home when a dangerous and powerful Chinese artefact is stolen from Croft Manor by a thief with an uncanny personal connection.”
The upcoming series will see Lara exploring exotic locations and delving into forgotten tombs, as she is “forced to confront her true self, and decide just what kind of hero she wants to become”, as teased by the show.
In addition to Atwell, Earl Baylon reprises his role as Jonah from the Survivor trilogy of games. There is also a potential appearance of Lara meeting up with Alex’s computer wiz sister Kaz in the trailer. Kaz is the first confirmed gay character in the Tomb Raider series, introduced in the Tomb Raider comics by Rhianna Pratchett.
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft will be available on Netflix starting from 10th October.
Alongside Netflix’s series, Amazon is also in the development phase of a Tomb Raider TV project with Phoebe Waller-Bridge from Fleabag attached.
