Sony Celebrates 30 Years of PlayStation
This month marks a significant milestone in the history of PlayStation, as it has been 30 years since the brand was launched in Japan. To commemorate this occasion, Sony has announced a series of exciting celebrations, including digital soundtracks, PlayStation-themed toys, and more.
Free Online Multiplayer Event
Sony’s anniversary celebrations kick off with a free online multiplayer event and esports tournament scheduled for 21st-22nd September. During this event, players will have the opportunity to enjoy online multiplayer in any PS4 or PS5 game without requiring a PlayStation Plus subscription.
Esports Tournament
The concurrent PS5 esports tournament will feature challenges in popular games like EA UFC 5, Tekken 8, and Guilty Gear Strive. Specific details about the tournament will be released through the PlayStation Competition Centre at a later date. Participants stand a chance to win a special 30th anniversary avatar and other game-specific prizes by signing up for the competition via the PS5’s Game Hub or the in-game PlayStation Tournaments button.
Digital Soundtracks
Sony will be releasing a new soundtrack each month between October and January next year. Titles like God of War, God of War 2, Twisted Metal, and more will be available for streaming on Spotify or for purchase from digital storefronts like Amazon and Apple Music. Additionally, a curated PlayStation 30th anniversary playlist is now accessible on Spotify.
Shapes of Play
Introducing Shapes of Play, a new range of PlayStation-themed amusements crafted by the designers of Sony’s consoles. The collection includes Shapes of Play: Battle, a board game, Shapes of Play: Create, a set of magnetic building blocks, and Shapes of Play: Recharge, a range of stress balls. These products will be available for purchase this December via PlayStation Direct.
My First Gran Turismo
For fans of Gran Turismo, Sony is launching My First Gran Turismo – a free trial aimed at players of all skill levels. This trial will feature cars, tracks, and race events that pay homage to the nostalgia and excitement of the original GT experience. It is expected to be released for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 during the holiday season.
