PlayStation 30th anniversary celebrations kick off with digital soundtracks, physical goodies, and a bespoke Gran Turismo 7 free trial

Sony Plans Exciting Celebrations for PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary

Between the release of Astro Bot and the accidental PS5 Pro reveal, Sony’s plans for PlayStation’s 30th anniversary may have slipped under your radar.

An official PlayStation Blog post, penned by Sony Interactive Entertainment VP of global marketing Isabelle Tomatis, outlines the upcoming celebrations for this milestone in the PlayStation brand’s history.

One highlight for racing game enthusiasts is the introduction of an all-new way to experience Gran Turismo 7 with the free trial called My First Gran Turismo. Set to launch during the holiday season, this trial will offer a selection of cars, circuits, and events that aim to capture the nostalgia of the first GT experience. The trial will be accessible to both PS5 and PS4 players, without the need for a PS Plus subscription.

Furthermore, a variety of digital soundtracks from popular PlayStation titles will soon be available on Spotify for the first time. From October to January, fans can look forward to soundtracks from games like God of War (2005), God of War 2, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Twisted Metal, Starhawk, and Unit 13 on the music streaming platform. These soundtracks will also be accessible through Apple Music and Amazon Music.

Another intriguing addition is the ‘Shapes of Play’ collection, designed by PlayStation’s console hardware team. Included in this series are Shapes of Play: Battle, a competitive board game, Shapes of Play: Create, a set of magnetic blocks for creating different shapes, and Shapes of Play: Recharge, a selection of soft stress toys shaped like PlayStation’s iconic face buttons. Personally, I’m most excited about the last one.

Lastly, Sony will be hosting a free online multiplayer weekend on September 21-22, allowing players without a PS Plus subscription to enjoy online gaming at no extra cost. Several online tournaments are planned for games such as NBA 2K25, MLB The Show 24, Tekken 8, and Guilty Gear Strive. Participation in these tournaments will also reward players with unique PlayStation 30th anniversary avatar icons.

For those left wanting more, the blog post assures readers that these announcements are just a glimpse of what’s in store for the PlayStation 30th anniversary celebrations, with additional reveals promised “in the near future.” Perhaps a new Ape Escape game could be on the horizon?
