Pokémon Go Ponyta and Galarian Ponyta Community Day guide

Upcoming Ponyta Community Day Event in Pokémon Go

Pokémon Go is hosting a special Ponyta Community Day event on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 2-5 p.m. in your local time zone. During this event, players can expect to encounter both Ponyta and Galarian Ponyta spawning in large numbers, with an increased chance of finding shiny versions. Additionally, there are various bonuses and perks available to players, which are outlined below.

How to Increase Your Chances of Catching a Shiny Ponyta

Research from The Silph Road has shown that the shiny rates on Community Days are about 1 in 24. This means that by actively playing during the three-hour window of the event, players should have multiple opportunities to encounter shiny Pokémon.

Learning Community Day Moves for Ponyta’s Evolution

Evolve your Ponyta or Galarian Ponyta into Rapidash or Galarian Rapidash between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. in your local time to teach them the charged move Wild Charge. If you miss this window, there will likely be another opportunity during a Community Day weekend event in December. Alternatively, you can use an Elite TM to obtain the move.

Rapidash Performance in the Meta

For PvE content, Rapidash and Galarian Rapidash are not top-tier choices, as there are many other fire-types that outclass them. However, Kantonian Rapidash can be a viable option for the Ultra League in PvP battles when equipped with Incinerate, Wild Charge, and Flame Charge.

Maximizing Your Ponyta Community Day Experience

During Ponyta Community Day, players can take advantage of the following bonuses:

  • Tripled Stardust for catching Pokémon
  • Doubled candy for catching Pokémon
  • Doubled chance for level 31+ trainers to get XL candy from catching Pokémon
  • Incense lasts three hours
  • Lure Modules last three hours
  • Ponyta special photobombs when taking snapshots
  • One additional special trade
  • Stardust cost halved for trading

To make the most of the event, be sure to activate a Star Piece and an Incense while trying to catch Ponyta. Remember, both Ponyta forms have different typings, so you may need to Mega Evolve different Pokémon to receive bonus candy. Regular Kantonian Ponyta (fire-type) can be evolved using Charizard, Houndoom, Blaziken, or Groudon, while Galarian Ponyta (psychic-type) can be paired with Alakazam, Slowbro, Gardevoir, Medicham, Latias, Latios, or Rayquaza for Mega Evolution.

During the event, special four-star raids are available from 5-10 p.m., offering players the chance to encounter Ponyta in a 300-meter radius around the gym for 30 minutes after completing the raid. These raids must be done in person and cannot be completed remotely. If you’re still looking to add Ponyta to your collection after the increased spawns from 2-5 p.m., consider participating in these raids for another opportunity.
