The Plucky Squire’s Launch Trailer Is A Papercraft Delight

The Plucky Squire Launching on Switch Tomorrow!

After much anticipation, The Plucky Squire is finally making its way to the Nintendo Switch on September 17, 2024. To mark the occasion, Devolver Digital, the publisher, has unveiled a launch trailer that perfectly captures the game’s unique aesthetic and charm.

The trailer showcases the world of Mojo in intricate papercraft dioramas crafted by Julia Yus and Yeray Pérez Vallejo. The attention to detail in these scenes, along with the art style that complements the 2D sections of the game, is truly remarkable. Even the transitions between scenes are made of paper.

Viewers get a glimpse of the various gameplay sections as well as pop-up dioramas showcasing the towns and locations players will explore. The trailer is so enchanting that it makes us wish we could purchase a real-life book of these visuals.

Adding to the nostalgia factor, there is also a downloadable manual available for the game on the official website. It’s a throwback to the days when we used to read video game manuals in the back of our parents’ cars.

The Unique Gameplay of The Plucky Squire

The Plucky Squire offers a blend of 2D and 3D elements, with certain sections set in a top-down world within a book. In this book world, the protagonist, Jot, can leap off the page onto the desk, transitioning the gameplay into a 3D platformer experience.

Ever since the game was first announced, fans have been eagerly awaiting its release. While the initial launch will be digital-only, a physical version is on the horizon. However, Devolver recently disclosed that while the game will run at 60 frames per second on most platforms, the Switch version might not be able to maintain that level of performance.
