Days Gone PS5 Remaster Rumors Begin to Rev Up

Days Gone: The “Less Exciting” Remaster

Recently, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered was rated by the ESRB, sparking speculation about a potential PlayStation State of Play event in the near future. During a discussion on Giant Bomb’s Game Mess Mornings, Jeff Grubb hinted at another PS5 remaster that may not generate as much excitement, and it seems that remaster is for Days Gone.

Host and writer Jordan Middler from VGC took to X (formerly Twitter) to share Grubb’s comments. Middler suggested that John Garvin, the creative director and writer for Days Gone, might not be too thrilled about the remaster, especially after his previous comments regarding the protagonist’s appearance in Astro Bot.

In response, a user on X expressed doubts about the resources being allocated for the Days Gone remaster. Middler’s only reply was a gif that seemed to confirm the speculation that the “less exciting” remaster indeed refers to the Bend Studio’s open-world zombie game.

The controversy stemmed from Garvin’s disapproval of Deacon St. John, the protagonist of Days Gone, being featured as a robot in Astro Bot. Garvin publicly criticized Bend Studio for what he deemed as a misstep in protecting the integrity of the game’s character.

Garvin has been a polarizing figure since Days Gone’s launch in 2019, particularly for his comments attributing the game’s poor reception to “woke reviewers.” In response, Bend Studio distanced themselves from Garvin via a statement on social media.

Despite receiving mixed reviews upon its initial release, Days Gone managed to achieve a 71 Metacritic score. In our review, Chandler Wood praised the game with a 9 out of 10 rating. He highlighted Sam Witwer’s performance as Deacon St. John, describing the character’s journey through a perilous world on a motorcycle as a compelling narrative that should not be overlooked.
