The answers to today’s Connections, game #483, are…

  • YELLOW: TURN TAIL FLEE, LEAVE, RETREAT, WITHDRAW
  • GREEN: THINGS CATS DO KNEAD, PURR, SCRATCH, SHED
  • BLUE: PAGES ON A WEBSITE ABOUT, CONTACT, HOME, LOGIN
  • PURPLE: ___ CHEESE COTTAGE, CREAM, GOAT, STRING

  • My rating: Easy
  • My score: Perfect

I have a fondness for cats, cheese, and working on websites, so today’s Connections, which featured all three as groups, was right up my alley. Solving the yellow TURN TAIL group with FLEE, LEAVE, RETREAT, and WITHDRAW was a breeze, as expected, due to the straightforward nature of the synonyms.

The other groups posed more of a challenge. The green group – THINGS CATS DO – came to mind early on with PURR and SCRATCH. While KNEAD seemed fitting, I struggled to find the fourth word. Initially, I considered CREAM or STRING as cat-related items, but they didn’t quite fit the theme. Eventually, I realized that SHED could also be a verb, leading to the “aha” moment.

What is NYT Connections?

NYT Connections is a popular word game series created by the New York Times. The game tasks players with identifying groups of four items that share a commonality, with different difficulty levels: green for easy, yellow for moderate, blue for challenging, and purple for very difficult.

Players are allowed up to four incorrect guesses, providing a bit of leeway. Additionally, solving the final group becomes easier through process of elimination.

Unlike simpler games like Wordle, NYT Connections presents more complexity and opportunities for trickery. Watch out for word games and homophones that can obscure the answers.

You can play the game for free on the NYT Games website on desktop or mobile.
