Commandos: Origins’ WW2 real-time stealth tactics revival now has a demo

If you’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of Commandos: Origins since it was announced last year, the good news is that Claymore Game Studios has now released a demo for the upcoming revival of the classic WW2 real-time stealth-tactics series on PC and Xbox.

For those unfamiliar with the Commandos series, it made its debut in 1998 with the challenging Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines developed by Pyro Studios. Over the years, the series expanded with five more installments before fading away with Commandos: Strike Force in 2006.

Commandos: Origins revisits the origins of the series by offering a stealthy World War 2 prequel experience. Players will lead the original six-member commando team through various missions involving sabotage and assassination across European coastlines, icy Arctic plains, and African deserts. The game retains the classic isometric perspective but is now presented in full 3D.

The newly released demo of Commandos: Origins, available on Steam, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X/S, features a “demo-exclusive test mission”. Players will take control of squad members Jack O’Hara (Green Beret) and James Blackwood (The Marine) as they undertake a mission to sabotage a German radar system set against the backdrop of the Channel Islands during World War 2.

The full game promises “more than 10” missions with both core and optional objectives that can be completed in various ways. Additionally, the game offers two-player local and online co-op support for those looking to team up with a friend.

While Commandos: Origins is set to release in 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Steam and the Microsoft Store), there are other games to explore in the meantime for fans of real-time stealth tactics. Consider trying out this year’s alternate-history WW2 adventure Sumerian Six or the 2023 piratical adventure Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew.
