The answers to today’s Connections, game #506, are…

  • YELLOW: IN PRISTINE CONDITION MINT, NEW, ORIGINAL, UNUSED
  • GREEN: MEDICAL ROLES ATTENDING, FELLOW, INTERN, RESIDENT
  • BLUE: SINGULAR NOUN IN A FAMOUS “JULIUS CAESAR” LINE COUNTRYMAN, EAR, FRIEND, ROMAN
  • PURPLE: ___ SQUARE PERFECT, POCKET, TIMES, TOWN

  • My rating: Moderate
  • My score: Perfect

One of the aspects I appreciate about Connections is how it challenges you to gather knowledge from various sources. Today, for example, I had to draw upon insights from William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, medical roles, and even online auction descriptions.

Green was the first group I solved: ATTENDING, FELLOW, INTERN, and RESIDENT instantly clicked as MEDICAL ROLES, perhaps influenced by my current rewatch of the show House. Moving on to the yellow group, I observed that MINT, NEW, ORIGINAL, and UNUSED all fit the theme of being IN PRISTINE CONDITION, although I considered whether PERFECT could also belong there.

It took some guesswork, but eventually, I guessed correctly. The other two groups posed more challenges. I focused on COUNTRYMAN, a less common word with hidden connections. The presence of ROMAN and FRIEND hinted at a famous speech, and adding EAR completed the group.

What is NYT Connections?

NYT Connections is a popular word game series created by the New York Times. It challenges players to identify groups of four items that share a common trait, with each group varying in difficulty level: green is easy, yellow is moderately challenging, blue is tougher, and purple is the most difficult.

While the final group may be the most challenging, players have the option to solve it through process of elimination. Additionally, players are allowed up to four mistakes, providing a bit of leeway.

Unlike simpler word games like Wordle, NYT Connections involves more complexity and offers opportunities for trickery that can catch players off guard with wordplay and hidden connections.

You can enjoy playing NYT Connections for free on the NYT Games website on both desktop and mobile devices.
