Bayonetta Celebrates 15th Anniversary with Special Messages

PlatinumGames’ iconic character Bayonetta is marking her 15th year in the spotlight, and while there hasn’t been any big news, the team and creators have turned to social media to honor the Umbra Witch.

PlatinumGames recently shared a brief message on social media showcasing Bayonetta’s original release back in 2009 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The franchise later made its way to the Wii U in 2014, followed by a Nintendo Switch release in 2018.

PlatinumGames: “Released in Japan on Oct 29 2009, #Bayonetta strutted onto the scene a whole 15 years ago”

The character’s designer, Mari Shimazaki, also joined in the celebration with a special message and stunning artwork dedicated to the original Bayonetta title:

Mari Shimazaki: “Congratulations on the 15th anniversary of Bayonetta and the 2nd anniversary of Bayonetta 3! Sorry it’s a WIP drawing, I drew it in between work. I wanted to make a soft and beautiful picture, but before I knew it, the contrast had become too extreme. I wanted to use the red, blue, and purple symbolic colors of 1, 2, and 3. I didn’t have enough time, so I’ll finish it before the 15th anniversary.”

The series’ creator Hideki Kamiya left PlatinumGames last year after the release of Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon. While he initially hinted at taking his Bayonetta vision with him, he also expressed confidence in the franchise’s future without his direct involvement.

In a tragic turn of events, earlier this year in August, the Japanese voice actor for Bayonetta, Atsuko Tanaka, passed away.
