Stardew Valley Continues to Grow with 1.6.9 Update
Seven months after the release of Stardew Valley’s major 1.6 update, developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone is still enhancing the beloved farming life simulation game with new features and fixes. The latest addition comes in the form of the 1.6.9 update, which introduces a new friend to help players retrieve lost items.
Upon installing Stardew Valley’s 1.6.9 update, players who have unlocked and then lost a unique item will discover a special shop appearing in the secret woods at midnight. For a price of 10,000g, items that cannot be obtained through other means will be available for purchase at this shop. Barone also mentions that lost items can be bought by anyone in multiplayer mode.
In addition to the new retrieval feature, players can now place legendary fish in fish ponds, with a limit of one fish per pond. These legendary fish will produce unique roe and have a distinct water color. The update also includes new Easter eggs, dialogue adjustments, JojoMart work portraits for Sam and Shane, and the ability to place beds and sleep in any constructed building that allows furniture. Furthermore, objects dropped in water now float for a brief period, giving players a chance to retrieve them.
The 1.6.9 update also brings balance changes and quality of life updates, such as improved automatic save game recovery and adjustments that will resend most achievements, recipes, and important mail if players miss them. The full patch notes for Stardew Valley’s 1.6.9 update can be found on Barone’s website. Additionally, all features of the 1.6.9 update are included in the 1.6 update for consoles and mobile, which is available today.
While the future of Stardew Valley updates remains uncertain, Barone has yet to reveal his plans for the farming life simulation game beyond the 1.6 console release. He had previously admitted that he had dedicated so much time to finalizing Stardew 1.6 that he had not made progress on his next game, Haunted Chocolatier, in quite some time. As a result, news on that front may be delayed.
