Binding of Isaac: Rebirth Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Online Co-op Mode
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, the poop-obsessed roguelike game, is commemorating its tenth anniversary this week. To mark this milestone, developer Edmund McMillen has announced the full release of the long-awaited online co-op mode on 18th November.
For those unfamiliar with the game, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a 2014 remake of McMillen’s original 2011 version. The online co-op mode was initially announced in September last year and has since undergone several beta sessions for owners of the Isaac’s Repentance expansion.
After over a year since the confirmation of online co-op, McMillen revealed that the mode will be officially launched for everyone on 18th November. The online co-op will support 2-4 players, come with its own completion markers, and be included as part of a “considerable” balance update, all at no extra cost.
McMillen has shared that this update will focus heavily on buffing items that players consider lackluster or bad. While further details are yet to be disclosed, McMillen has posted some old Isaac-related design documents—such as ending storyboards, boss designs, and enemy treatments—accompanying his social media announcement.
In celebration of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth’s tenth anniversary, the game and all its expansions are currently on sale on Steam until 11th November. Players can enjoy a 50 percent discount on the base game and a 41 percent discount on the Complete Bundle, which includes all DLCs.
Looking ahead, McMillen’s cat-breeding roguelike adventure game, Mewgenics, which was first announced in 2013, is anticipated to be released next year. Fans of McMillen’s work can look forward to exploring this unique gaming experience in the near future.
