Valve adds game recording function to Steam, and it works on Steam Deck

Valve Introduces Game Recording Feature to Steam

Valve has officially rolled out a game recording feature on Steam, which was previously in beta testing. This new functionality allows users to create and share their gameplay footage seamlessly.

With this update, gamers can now record, replay, clip, and share their gaming experiences, including on Valve’s handheld PC, the Steam Deck.

Background Recording and On-Demand Functionality

According to a blog post by Valve, the ‘Background Recording’ mode ensures that gameplay is continuously saved to a preferred drive, without exceeding specified duration and storage limits. Additionally, an ‘on demand’ feature is available for users to start and stop recording manually as needed.

The replay function can be accessed through the Steam Overlay for each game on Valve’s platform. Moreover, the new feature includes ‘Timeline’ and ‘Event’ markers to enhance the recording experience.

“The Steam Timeline appears whenever you’re actively recording,” Valve explained. “Timeline-enhanced games generate event markers as relevant game events happen. Steam achievements and screenshots automatically create markers as well.”

In other news, EA recently decided to block Steam Deck players from accessing its cooperative shooter, Apex Legends. The reason cited was the attractiveness of the Linux operating system for cheaters and cheat developers, potentially leading to exploits and cheats within the game.
