Zelda: BOTW And Animal Crossing: New Horizons Composer Yasuaki Iwata Has Left Nintendo

The talented composer, Yasuaki Iwata, known for his stellar music tracks on the Nintendo Switch, has announced his departure from Nintendo.

In a recent tweet, Iwata revealed that he had actually left his position at Nintendo back in July 2023, although this is the first time he’s made it public.

In his message, Iwata expressed his gratitude to all those who have supported his work over the years. He also mentioned that he has been involved in several new projects since leaving Nintendo, with plans to share them “in the near future.”

Below, you can read Yasuaki Iwata’s full statement from his original tweet:

“I have a bit of a belated announcement to share.
In July of last year, I took a step in a new direction by leaving my position at Nintendo.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported me over the years, to those who enjoyed my work, and to everyone who listened to the music through the projects I was a part of.
I’ve been working on new projects since my departure, and I hope to have the opportunity to share some of these with you in the near future. If there are those who would like to continue following my journey, I’d be truly grateful, and I hope you look forward to what’s to come.
Thank you very much for your continued support!”

Iwata’s journey at Nintendo began with his work on the Super Mario 3D World soundtrack in 2013. He went on to contribute to other iconic titles on the Switch such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, ARMS, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and the popular main theme for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Although Iwata’s departure from Nintendo doesn’t mark the end of his music career, there’s no guarantee that his future projects will be featured on Nintendo systems. Regardless, we’ll be jamming to the New Horizons theme for the rest of the day!
