Mario & Luigi Fans Aren’t Happy About Brothership’s Battle Button Tweaks

Mario & Luigi: Brothership Impressions

Mario & Luigi: Brothership made its debut on the Nintendo Switch recently, and initial reactions are relatively positive. Despite the game’s captivating visuals, quirky characters, and overall charm, some players have expressed frustration with a particular change in the gameplay mechanics.

Control Scheme Adjustment

In previous entries, Mario was controlled using the ‘A’ button and Luigi with the ‘B’ button, making navigation and combat straightforward. However, Brothership introduces a slight tweak where players now select Luigi’s attacks with ‘A’ and execute them with ‘B.’

While this adjustment may seem minor, players accustomed to the previous control scheme may find it challenging to adapt. This change has led to some unintentional mistakes during combat, highlighting the importance of muscle memory in gaming.

Reflecting on the Change

After almost a decade since the last original series entry, it’s understandable that developers would want to cater to a new audience with familiar control conventions. However, longtime fans of the franchise may find this alteration slightly frustrating.

Despite this minor setback, our review of Brothership recognizes it as the “best Mario & Luigi RPG yet.” For a detailed analysis, check out our full review.
