PlayStation Portal Update Introduces Cloud Streaming for PS Plus Premium Members
Sony’s latest update for the PlayStation Portal brings an exciting new feature: cloud streaming is now available for PS Plus Premium members, starting as a beta version.
Since its launch last year, the PlayStation Portal has allowed owners to stream games from their PS5 console to the device’s 1080p screen. With the new update, PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers can now play select PS5 games directly from the PS Plus Game Catalogue via cloud streaming, even without a PS5 console.
According to Sony’s announcement, the beta will support over 120 games, including popular titles like Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Players can stream games at up to 1080p/60fps with key DualSense controller features and cloud-based saves.
Sony warns that since cloud streaming is still in beta, some features may change over time. In the initial stages of testing, features like Game Trials, streaming purchased games, and certain system features will not be available. Additionally, only PS5 games will be accessible during the beta, with PS4 and PS3 games not yet supported.
Players can access the beta by updating their PlayStation Portal and navigating to Quick Menu > Settings > Cloud Streaming (Beta) to enable the feature. Sony’s latest update, available starting today, also includes improvements to the audio experience.
Digital Foundry previously praised the PlayStation Portal as an “interesting gadget” but noted the absence of cloud streaming support. It will be intriguing to see their response to Sony’s latest announcement.
