PS5 30th Anniversary Cable Connector Clashes With Console Design

The Issue with the PS5 30th Anniversary Cable Connector

When it comes to the PS5 30th Anniversary console, there is no denying its appeal. The classic PS1 colorway is a nod to Sony’s gaming roots and is a hit among fans. However, upon closer inspection, there seems to be a design flaw that has caught the attention of users.

One of the standout features of the PS5 30th Anniversary console is its cable connector, designed to resemble the original PS1 controller connector. While this pays homage to the past, it seems that the size of the connector poses a problem – it blocks the USB port on the console.

A user on the PS5 subreddit shared a picture showcasing how the cable connector obstructs the USB port when connected to the limited edition console. This means that players who choose to use the nostalgic accessory will have to sacrifice the use of the other USB port, which could be a significant inconvenience.

Sony’s 30th Anniversary Celebration

The PS5 30th Anniversary console was announced in September and quickly became a hot item, selling out instantly. Available in both PS5 Pro and PS5 Digital models, the console included not only the iconic PS1 colorway but also a vertical stand, PlayStation Shapes cable ties, a sticker, poster, paper clip, and the controversial cable connector. Disc drives were sold separately, with a gray cover included.

In addition to the console, Sony also released a trio of 30th Anniversary accessories for PlayStation players. The PS Portal, DualSense, and DualSense Edge all received limited editions in the classic colorway, selling out upon restocking.

Sony’s 30th Anniversary celebrations included collaborations with Sony Music to bring beloved soundtracks to Spotify and culminated in the release of My First GT, a free trial version of Gran Turismo 7 featuring elements from the original PS1 release.
