Wishing a Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating in the US! And for everyone else, happy Black Friday Eve. The NYT added some misdirection on the grid today, with QUACK, GOBBLE, THANKS, and GIVING placed as the initial words on the top row.

However, this was a diversion. QUACK was aligned with CHEAT, CON, and FAKE for the green group (FRAUDSTER), while GOBBLE was grouped with BOLT, DOWN, and SCARF for the timely EAT VORACIOUSLY (blue).

The yellow group, as usual, was more straightforward – APPRECIATION comprised synonyms like THANKS, making it unnecessary to tackle the toughest purple group. This group included GIVING, which paired with FAT, SUPER, and TACO for a ___ TUESDAY connection, although my knowledge was limited to SUPER TUESDAY.

What is NYT Connections?

NYT Connections is one of the many engaging word games created by the New York Times. It challenges players to identify groups of four items that share a common trait, with each group varying in difficulty level: green being easy, yellow a bit harder, blue often challenging, and purple usually very tough.

Players are allowed up to four mistakes and don’t necessarily need to solve the final group, as it can be deduced through eliminations. The game is more intricate than Wordle, providing ample opportunities for surprises and tricks that may lead to incorrect answers, such as homophones and wordplay disguises.

NYT Connections is accessible for free on the NYT Games website, playable on desktop or mobile devices.
