As we approach Christmas, it’s time for some festive trivia. Inspired by today’s Connections game, how many individuals can you recall from Billy Joel’s hit “We Didn’t Start The Fire”?
Before you seek the answer, challenge yourself to name them in the correct order for bonus points.
Reflecting on today’s game, certain words like “USED TO START A FIRE” jumped out immediately. While puzzling out the words after “X,” FILES stood out, along with RAY. This Purple group seemed relatively simple compared to previous weeks. Similarly, DELIBERATION didn’t require much THOUGHT, unlike remembering who Billy mentioned after Charles de Gaulle.

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is an intriguing word game created by the New York Times. Players are challenged to group four items that share a common theme. Each group varies in difficulty level, with green being easy, yellow a bit harder, blue often tough, and purple very difficult.
Although solving the final group may not be necessary, players can use the process of elimination to arrive at the answer. You’re allowed up to four mistakes, providing some room for error.
Unlike simpler games like Wordle, NYT Connections offers more complexity and opportunities for tricks that may catch players off guard, such as homophones and other word games that can disguise answers.
The game is accessible for free on the NYT Games site via desktop or mobile.
