Super Mario Odyssey Mod Brings Super Mario Galaxy to Switch
Modders continue to push the boundaries of games in innovative ways, with the latest project being hailed as the most ambitious Super Mario Odyssey mod to date.
If you’re not familiar with it yet, the mod is titled Super Mario Odyssey – A Galaxy Story and is a creation by Slycer and several others. It transports the Super Mario Galaxy universe into Mario’s 2017 Switch release, effectively rebuilding the Wii classic using Odyssey’s game engine.
This mod introduces “over 400 new moons/power stars to collect,” as well as reintroduces the Comet Observatory in a “fresh overworld system,” along with “all 42 galaxies” from Super Mario Galaxy. Additionally, it incorporates “bosses and enemies” from the Galaxy series, along with various mechanics from those titles.
“Many new mechanics from Super Mario Galaxy – gravity-system, assembly blocks, Cataquacks, Flipswitch panels, tox boxes, and so much more…”
This isn’t the first instance of fans revitalizing the Super Mario Galaxy games, and it certainly won’t be the last. While the original Galaxy game can be played on the Switch, it’s only accessible through Nintendo’s “limited-time” Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection.
Super Mario Odyssey – A Galaxy Story is set to be released next year. What are your thoughts on this fan-made project? Share your opinions in the comments.
