Update on Xbox-exclusive Master Chief Design in Fortnite
UPDATE 10.40pm UK: Epic Games has now brought back the Xbox-exclusive Master Chief design to Fortnite and issued an apology for the confusion caused by previous statements suggesting it would no longer be available. It’s almost like a Christmas miracle!
Original Story Behind Master Chief Skin in Fortnite
ORIGINAL STORY 11.20am UK: Halo’s iconic character, Master Chief, made a comeback to the Fortnite item shop, but his return came with a twist. The character’s Xbox-exclusive design underwent an unexpected change, disappointing many fans.
Previously, playing Fortnite on an Xbox console or via Xbox Cloud Gaming would unlock the Matte Black version of the Master Chief skin as a console-exclusive reward. However, upon Master Chief’s return to the shop, new purchasers were surprised to find that this exclusive style was no longer accessible.
Epic Games later clarified that the “Matte Black style for The Master Chief is no longer unlockable” for new purchasers and was limited to players who had acquired the outfit before a certain date.
Fortnite enthusiasts were quick to reference a 2020 post by Epic Games that promised players the Xbox-exclusive version at any point in the future with no time limit for unlocking it. This led to the community expressing their disappointment over the sudden change in policy.
While Epic Games has not provided a reason for discontinuing the Xbox-exclusive design, fans are wondering if similar exclusive skins for PlayStation, like Aloy from Horizon, are also affected. We’ve reached out to the company for more details.
On a brighter note, Fortnite fans can now enjoy the Cyberpunk 2077 crossover event, featuring skins for Johnny Silverhand and V.
