Sony appears to be making further adjustments to Bungie after a challenging year filled with layoffs and financial difficulties. Most recently, Sony has transferred another Bungie team to PlayStation and seen the departure of two senior Bungie executives.
Sony’s acquisition of Bungie continues to be scrutinized
A strategy team at Bungie has made a complete transition to PlayStation, as reported by Tech4Gamers. This shift is part of a series of movements by Sony, pulling select teams and employees from the studio. Joss Price, now leading business development and franchise strategy at Sony Interactive Entertainment, announced this news on LinkedIn.
Additionally, TheGamePost revealed that two Bungie veterans left the company without public statements. Ondraus Jenkins, who served as the studio’s Chief Strategy Officer for 16 years, and Jonny Ebbert, who spent seven years at Bungie, with the last five as Chief Creative Officer, both updated their profiles to reflect their departures.
Following the elimination of over 200 roles at Bungie in July 2024, amidst struggles with maintaining player engagement in Destiny 2, the studio’s $3.6 billion acquisition by Sony remains a topic of discussion in the gaming industry. Reports have emerged suggesting that Bungie may have misrepresented its financial situation to Sony prior to the acquisition.
