League of Legends to Undergo Noxian-Themed Makeover
On Jan. 9, League of Legends is set to receive a Noxian-themed makeover in celebration of its first season under the new model. Riot Games recently unveiled a cinematic trailer titled Welcome to Noxus, showcasing some of the new lore for season one. The trailer depicts The Black Rose coming together for a mysterious ball filled with intrigue and potential assassination attempts. Additionally, Mel embarks on a journey to the Immortal Bastion following the conclusion of Arcane, the Netflix series.
Riot Games Reveals Details About New Champion, Mel
Riot Games released a dev diary video on Wednesday, providing more insight into the upcoming season. Mel, known as the Soul’s Reflection, will be introduced as the game’s next champion. She will utilize powerful magic, as seen in Arcane, to protect her allies on Summoner’s Rift.
Mel’s design features a Noxian-themed appearance, with a color scheme of red and black. Her abilities revolve around projectile reflection, offering a unique playstyle. Unlike champions like Yasuo and Nilah who can block or absorb projectiles, Mel can use Rebuttal to redirect targeted abilities back at their caster and non-targeted abilities towards her enemies.
Players will have the opportunity to unlock Mel for free through seasonal missions. Additionally, Riot will delve into Mel’s backstory in an upcoming novel titled Ambessa: Chosen of the Wolf, exploring her relationship with Ambessa and her ties to Noxus.
What to Expect in Welcome to Noxus Season
Throughout the Welcome to Noxus season, players can anticipate a deeper narrative experience. The popular game mode, Arena, will make a return as the Reckoning Pits of Noxus, where gladiators compete for glory and rewards. Moreover, a new minigame will be introduced along with out-of-game media such as motion comics. Visual updates are also on the horizon for champions like LeBlanc and potentially Vladimir, who makes a cameo at the end of the Welcome to Noxus cinematic.
