With GTA 6 looming, EA says it’s willing to delay its “biggest ever Battlefield” to make its launch ‘all it needs to be’

EA CEO Considers Delay for Next Battlefield Release

EA CEO Andrew Wilson recently confirmed that the release of the next Battlefield game, expected before April 2026, could be delayed if necessary. Wilson expressed the willingness to push back the release if certain factors in the upcoming year made it an unfavorable window for the game’s launch.

The current launch window for Battlefield is crowded with highly anticipated titles such as Borderlands 4, Mafia: The Old Country, Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Yōtei, and Fable. Additionally, the impending release of Grand Theft Auto 6 this autumn adds to the competition, making it a challenging year for game launches. Wilson acknowledged this competition during an investor discussion, indicating that external factors may influence the timing of Battlefield’s release.

Wilson emphasized that EA has invested significantly in the upcoming Battlefield title, making it the most extensive project in the franchise’s history. He stated that EA aims to deliver the biggest and most impressive Battlefield game to date, ensuring that the launch timing aligns with the game’s potential and community growth.

While EA is confident that the new Battlefield will be ready for release in Financial Year 26, Wilson mentioned the possibility of evaluating alternative launch windows if the current timeframe does not seem favorable. The goal is to provide sufficient time, resources, and player engagement opportunities for the game to reach its full potential.

Following the lukewarm reception of Battlefield 2042, EA is keen on winning back the community with its next installment. The company has assembled a large development team consisting of employees from DICE, Ripple Effect, Motive, and Criterion to work on the game. The focus is on regaining player trust and delivering an experience that resonates with series fans.

EA has already revealed plans to return to the modern era for the next Battlefield game, with traditional classes and more focused maps. The release timing holds significant importance for the franchise’s future success, and EA’s promotional efforts are already underway with initiatives like Battlefield Labs and sneak peeks of the game.
