TCL QM6K Review – IGN

TCL QM6K – A Shift in the Industry

Four years ago, TCL was a major player in the affordable television market until Hisense took the lead with competitive pricing and performance. However, TCL has stepped up its game, with the new QM6K showcasing impressive technology advancements that make it one of the top TVs for gaming in its $1,000 price range.

Note: all specifications mentioned are for the 65-inch version of this television, as reviewed by IGN.

TCL QM6K – Design and Build

TCL’s QM6K doesn’t break new ground in design, featuring a simple, unassuming flatscreen with slim bezels and a thin silver base. Despite its light weight, the installation of the feet could be improved for easier setup.

The rear of the TV houses a 40W, three-speaker system, with an input layout that differs from most manufacturers. The TV offers four HDMI ports, with two supporting 4K at 144Hz, and includes USB ports, RF input, and optical port.

TCL QM6K – The Remote

The remote control of the QM6K is larger than average but provides easy access to essential TV settings. Six pre-installed shortcuts enhance the user experience, offering quick access to popular streaming services.

TCL QM6K – Software and UI

TCL uses Google TV as the operating system, with minor tweaks for the TCL experience. The TV’s processing speed can be a bit slow at times, but overall, the UI offers a user-friendly experience.

TCL QM6K – Picture Quality

The QM6K delivers impressive color performance, with minimal differences compared to its predecessor, the QM7. Panel uniformity is good, contributing to vibrant skin tones and landscape colors.

With strong HDR color support and excellent off-angle viewing, the QM6K offers an exceptional visual experience for viewers.

TCL QM6K – Gaming Performance

Equipped with variable refresh rate (VRR) and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro support, the QM6K promises an immersive gaming experience. The TV’s native 144Hz refresh rate ensures smooth gameplay, making it ideal for competitive gaming.

TCL QM6K – Audio Quality

While the QM6K excels in visual quality, its audio performance falls short, lacking balanced sound and clarity. To enhance the audio experience, a soundbar or sound system is recommended for an improved viewing experience.

TCL QM6K – The Competition

In a market where TCL competes with its own models like the QM7 and QM8, the QM6K stands out for its enhanced viewing angles, halo suppression, and impressive colors. Hisense’s U7 series is also a strong competitor with superior brightness and color quality.
