Hogwarts Legacy is filled to the brim (or cauldron, in this case) with things to do. Whether collecting Field Guild pages, lock-picking homes and rooms, or beating NPCs on Summoner’s Court, there’s never a dull moment. Of course, let’s not forget about the many optional side quests you can do to get to know certain NPCs better. While the Ghost of Our Love won’t taste your mettle against convoluting puzzles and formidable Ashwinders or Goblins, this quest can still be confusing. Luckily, I’ll guide you through where you can find the map with the Floating Candles and the instructions you’ll need to get to your destination.
Meeting Richard Jackdaw
Before getting into the nitty-gritty of things, we must first discuss its prerequisites. If you haven’t completed your first Trials of Merlin quest, you must do that first. After you finish your first Merlin Trial with Nora Treadwell and meet up with Natty in Lower Hogsfield, you’ll receive a letter via your Owl Post. At this point in the game, you’ll be assigned to a House-specific quest, but regardless of which House you’ve chosen, all the branching quests will lead you to one ghost: Richard Jackdaw.
You’ll unlock one of the four quests, depending on which House you belong to.
- Prisoners of Love (Hufflepuff)
- The Hunt for the Missing Pages (Gryffindor)
- Scrope’s Last Hope (Slytherin)
- Ollivander’s Heirloom (Ravenclaw)
All the quests are unique in their own right, but in the end, it’ll all point to meeting Richard Jackdaw. The beginning of his quest sees you head to his tomb deep in the Forbidden Forest. Richard’s sequence of quests will ultimately lead you to unlock the Map Chamber and meet Percival Rackham for the first time, but you’ll also encounter a treasure map known as the ‘Map with Floating Candles.’ Picking up the treasure map will automatically start the Ghost of Our Love sidequest.
The Treasure Map’s Location
The Map with Floating Candles can be found in different parts of Hogwarts Legacy’s world, depending on the House you belong to. Here’s where you can find them:
Hufflepuff | Around Upper Hogsfield. Search the home behind Claire Beaumont’s vendor, and to the right of the door, you’ll find a chest with the Map with the Floating Candles. |
Gryffindor | While doing the Hunt for the Missing pages quest, you’ll meet Nearly Headless Nick. This is also where he’ll introduce you to Patrick Delaney-Podmore in the cemetery north of Hogsmeade. After conversing with him, go to the grave on the right near the crypt entrance to collect the treasure map. |
Slytherin | You must first progress through Scrope’s Last Hope and reach Apollonia’s Grotto; that’s the cave under Hogwarts with a red squid painted on the wall. Place the piece of toast Scope has given you onto the pedestal to open a secret area. Once inside, look around to find a chest that has the map. |
Ravenclaw | When you’re done speaking with Ollivander, go to the Owlery located southwest of Hogwarts. Head to the top of the Owlery head on the southern side of the structure, where you’ll find the map on the ground. |
Ghost of Our Love Walkthrough
You’ll first need to fast travel to the Forbidden Forest Floo Flame. You can unlock the Floo Flame’s location by heading to the Forbidden Forest’s entrance. If you’re currently out in the daytime, go to your map settings and change the time of day to night.
You’ll find a small bridge and a love letter on the side of it, with the letter suggesting that two students were sneaking into the Forbidden Forest for a lovely romantic dinner. Once you’ve read the letter, cast the Lumos spell to where you found the letter. This will reveal some enchanted floating candles.
Follow the candles into the forest. Although you don’t necessarily have to go too far, you’ll likely meet various threats inside the Forbidden Forest—such as Ashwinders or Dugbogs—and they won’t hesitate to wipe you out should they detect you. Once you’ve traveled far enough, you’ll be greeted with a table for two, more floating candles, and a treasure chest.
The chest will contain 400 Galleons and a random piece of gear. You’ll be given 180 XP for completing Ghost of Our Love as a reward for your efforts. It’s not much, but considering the sidequest takes less than five minutes to complete, I’d say it’s worth the effort. The only irritating thing for me was finding where the bridge and candles were. Thankfully, now you have this handy dandy guide to walk you through the process!
