Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 update — everything new in the patch
Animal Crossing: New Horizons just dropped its big 3.0 update, and there’s a lot tucked in here: a kappa-run pier resort, handy crafting and building tweaks, and crossover goodies tied to The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon. If you’re wondering whether it’s worth dusting off your island, here’s a clean rundown of what’s new.
A Nintendo Switch 2 version (requiring a paid upgrade)
If you’re playing on Nintendo Switch 2, there’s a $4.99 upgrade that adds enhanced visuals, Joy-Con 2 mouse-style controls, GameChat support, and room for up to 12 visitors on your island at once. There’s also a new Megaphone tool that lets you call out to villagers using the microphone.
Everything else below is part of the free update, so you don’t need the paid upgrade to dive into the new resort content.
Help out Kapp’n’s family at their new pier resort
Isabelle’s morning announcements should nudge you to check the pier, which now hosts a hotel that appeared overnight. Inside, you’ll decorate guest rooms for visitors—very much in the spirit of the Happy Home Paradise DLC. Completing setups nets you tickets you can spend at Gran’s shop for exclusive resort-only items.
There’s also a board out front where you can submit DIY creations to earn extra tickets.
New Nook Miles objectives
The resort arrives with a handful of fresh Nook Miles tasks. If you like chasing milestones and filling out achievements, you’ve got new objectives to check off as you work the hotel and its side activities.
Quality-of-life updates for crafting and building
You can finally craft straight from home storage and batch craft multiple items in one go. No more stuffing your pockets with stacks of wood and iron just to mass-produce a set. You can now store trees and other plants, and there’s another storage upgrade available if you’re running out of space.
Terrain work also gets more precise: you can move tile by tile, making it easier to fine-tune paths, waterways, and cliff edges exactly how you want them.
Clear your island with Resetti’s Reset Service
If you went a little too hard on decorating and want to reclaim some real estate—or start fresh—Resetti can help. Track him down on your island and he’ll walk you through how the reset tools work, including a few limitations to keep in mind before you commit.
Decorate even more on Luna’s Slumber Islands
Out of room on your main island? Take a nap and visit Luna. Slumber Islands function as sandbox spaces where you can decorate to your heart’s content using anything in your catalog, even if you don’t currently own it. It’s great for building mini-games for friends or testing out a vibe without touching your main layout. Friends you invite can help decorate or terraform alongside you in real time.
Note: you’ll need to receive Luna’s letter in the mail first, and Nintendo Switch Online access is required.
Crossover amiibo functionality
You can now scan The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon amiibo to unlock special items in Nook Shopping and even invite villagers inspired by those series—provided you’ve got open housing plots. It’s a straightforward way to bring a little Hyrule or Inkopolis flair to your island.
New items to decorate with
There’s a fresh batch of decor to chase. Some items, including Lego-themed pieces, show up in the Nook Shopping app right away. Others are tied to the resort ticket economy, so you’ll want to keep decorating rooms to earn more. Scanning specific amiibo will add even more crossover options—Splatoon gear included—to your Nook Shopping listings.
