How to Unlock Magearna in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Magearna arrives in Pokémon Legends: Z-A with the Mega Dimension DLC, but you won’t stumble into it the usual way. The only path to this mythical Pokémon is a new side mission tucked behind late-game progress. You’ll need to clear the base game’s main missions and a specific DLC quest before Side Mission 195, “Restarting Magearna,” even shows up.

Below is a clean path to unlocking Side Mission 195 and adding Magearna to your team in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

How to unlock Side Mission 195 in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Side Mission 195 only appears after you finish Side Mission 190, “A Mimikyu for my Cutie.” In most cases, 190 doesn’t pop until you’re well into the post-game. You don’t need to finish Main Mission 39 or grind Infinite Royale to the top rank, but you do need to complete Main Mission 42—which means you’ve already caught Kalos’s legendary Pokémon—before 190 will appear.

When that’s handled, check on Vinnie; an exclamation mark should flag his new request. He wants a Mimikyu for his daughter. You won’t find Mimikyu in Lumiose City itself, so you’ll need to scout Hyperspace Lumiose wild zone portals. Watch for Mimikyu’s distinct rag-doll silhouette on the wild zone map. Since it’s a dual Ghost/Fairy-type, prioritize portals where Ghost or Fairy are listed as common spawns.

Catch a Mimikyu (grab a spare if you want one for your own boxes), then head back to Quasartico and speak to Vinnie. Hand it over to complete the quest—this sets the stage for Side Mission 195.

How to get Magearna in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

After finishing Side Mission 190, leave Quasartico and step back in. This should spawn CEO Jett in the tower lobby, standing near a Poké Ball-like orb. Talk to her to start Side Mission 195, “Restarting Magearna.”

Jett explains that awakening Magearna requires fabricating its Mega Stone. For that, she needs 999 Mega Shards. The number sounds scary, but it goes fast if you’ve been cracking the pink mineral nodes around Lumiose City and especially in Hyperspace Lumiose. If you’re short, jump between Hyperspace wild zones and sweep every shard cluster you can find—those areas tend to be stacked with them.

Bring the full 999 back to Jett in Quasartico. Progress through her dialogue to hand them over, and the team will forge Magearnite, Magearna’s Mega Stone. With your trainer’s Mega Ring and the newly made Magearnite, Magearna awakens and joins your party. Jett also gives you the stone outright, so you can Mega Evolve Magearna in battle immediately.
