Hollow Knight: Silksong — all 18 spool fragment locations and how to get them

Tracking down Hollow Knight: Silksong’s spool fragments isn’t just a nice-to-have. Expanding Hornet’s silk capacity becomes vital as Act 2 wraps and Act 3 kicks off. You can grab about a third early, but most of the rest sit behind movement checks like the Clawline and upgrades such as the Faydown Cloak.

Below you’ll find every spool fragment location and what it takes to reach them. If you get turned around, keep an interactive map of Pharloom nearby for quick bearings.

All spool fragment locations in Hollow Knight: Silksong

There are 18 spool fragments scattered across Pharloom. Every two you collect raises Hornet’s thread capacity. With the full set, a full spool supports two Binds or more frequent silk skills — a bigger deal than it sounds once late-game bosses start swinging. It’s worth cleaning these up before diving into Act 3.

    Spool fragment #1 — Mosshome

Enter Mosshome via The Marrow’s upper-left exit, through the passage above where you find Shakra. Leave the far-left chamber, drop onto the platform, and activate the elevator (handy if you need quicker access to Bone Bottom later). Hop across the platforms to the right and climb up. Break the wall beneath the rosary cache, minding the traps, and head into the next room to collect the fragment.

Spool fragment #2 — Above the magma in the Deep Docks

Enter the magma chamber and keep hopping; Hornet only takes damage if she stands still in it. Flip the lever at the far end to shift the hanging platforms, then hop back using the new layout to reach the left-side ledge where the fragment sits.

    Spool fragment #3 — Greymoor

In the room just right of the Far Fields entrance, clear the arena fight in the house on the lake to free a bundle of balloons. Pogo up the balloons to climb. If you picked up the “Craw Clearing” wish at the Halfway House bar, you can nab some Ragpelt on the way. At the top, duck into the left-hand alcove for the fragment.

    Spool fragment #4 — Bellhart

After defeating Widow and finishing “Threadspun Town,” buy this fragment from Frey in Bellhart for 270 rosary beads.

Spool fragment #5 — Weavenest Atla

Use the Needolin to open the Weaver door at Mosshome’s eastern end and speak with Eva deeper in. Once you can explore the nest, use the teleporter to reach the bottom. Wall-jump onto the ledge above the elevator, head left, clear out the big enemies, and grab the fragment above the water.

Spool fragment #6 — Flea caravan in Blasted Steps

After you enter the Citadel and start Act 2, relocate the caravan from Greymoor to the Blasted Steps near the Grand Gate (you’ll need to find 14 fleas first). Mooshka the Fleamaster then rewards you with a fragment.

Spool fragment #7 — Grand Gate

Climb to the upper-left of the Grand Gate using the adjustable platforms (you can knock them from below to reposition). A small chamber up there holds the fragment.

Spool fragment #8 — Below the Ventrica in the Underworks

From the Underworks Ventrica station, drop down while avoiding the steam. Slip into the room on the left for the fragment and a shortcut to the western Underworks.

Spool fragment #9 — Below the spikes in the Underworks

Ride the elevator down from The Stage (where you fought Trobbio) into the Underworks and go left. Carefully traverse above the spike floor until you spot an opening. Glide down into it, follow the narrow walkway that burrows into the rock, and you’ll reach the fragment.

Spool fragment #10 — Cogwork Core

The Faydown Cloak helps here, though it’s not required. From the Cogwork Core bench, drop to the very bottom and cross right to a room in the lower-right corner. Wall-jump up the shaft and hit the lever several times to open the door. A big clockwork bug spawns; you can ignore it and slip into the new passage. Flip the next lever to open a trapdoor, follow the tunnel, and pick up the fragment.

Spool fragment #11 — Under the elevator in Whiteward

This one hides beneath the elevator car. Take the lift down, then head left and loop around until you’re back at a corridor overlooking the shaft. Wall-jump up, stand on the call button to summon the elevator, then drop and duck into one of the side corridors to let it pass. Once it clears, drop to the bottom and grab the fragment.

Spool fragment #12 — ‘Balm for the Wounded’ quest in Whiteward

Sherma eventually relocates to the Citadel and ends up in Songclave (you may need to spot him at the Choral Chambers spa first). Complete “Building Up Songclave” by donating 300 rosary beads at the First Shrine’s wish wall, rest, then speak to him. When he voices concern for suffering pilgrims, Hornet nudges him to take action. Rest and return to find he’s gone and a new wish, “Balm for the Wounded,” is posted. Track Sherma to Whiteward in a room above the mortician enemies, beat three waves, and he’ll reward you with a fragment.

Spool fragment #13 — High Halls

After the first waterway, you’ll enter a tall vertical room. Go up (Faydown Cloak’s double jump helps), use the Clawline to latch onto rotating rings, deal with ministers as needed, and break the glass dome at the top to reach the fragment.

Spool fragment #14 — Mount Fay

You can spot this one from Mount Fay’s open area, though it’s technically accessed via The Slab. From the Bellway station, go up and slip into a roof vent. Follow the tight corridor left and it dumps you out at the fragment. If you don’t have the Apostate Key from the Putrified Ducts, you can reach it through The Slab’s Choral Chambers entrance instead.

    Spool fragment #15 — Songclave

Finish “The Wandering Merchant” and donate 500 rosary beads for “Strengthening Songclave.” When Jubilana vanishes again, accept “The Lost Merchant,” find her in Memorium, and bring her back. She’ll then sell you a fragment for 500 rosary beads.

Spool fragment #16 — Hidden cave in the Deep Docks

This route is tricky and requires the Clawline (Faydown Cloak makes it more comfortable). Enter the Deep Docks through the breakable wall in Far Fields’ bottom-left corner. Drop, go left into the big chamber, descend carefully to avoid lava, and land on the rightmost platform. Jump and Clawline to the far wall, then work through the spike cave using Cling Grip and the Clawline.

When you clear the spikes, cling to the left wall, then jump and glide toward the red blossoms. Pogo up, cling to the right wall, and strike the glowing ceiling to open a path. Thread through the next spike run with the Clawline, hit the glowing floor at the end to finish the route, and follow it around to the fragment.

Spool fragment #17 — Grindle in Blasted Steps

Grindle sells a fragment for 680 rosary beads. You’ll need the Faydown Cloak to reach his room; without it you can’t get enough height to climb in.

    Spool fragment #18 — Memorium

This one sits behind a platforming trial. Work your way up through Memorium until you reach the tall vertical chamber near the Ventrica station. Enter the room beneath the station and drop the shaft, activating the Drifter’s Cloak near the bottom to avoid the thorns. Head right into a thorny passage. Clear the first barrier with a double jump or Clawline, float down, and cling to the safe wall on the right. Use the Clawline to shift left and double jump to the next foothold (or jump–dash–double jump, if that’s more comfortable). Dash off to safety and collect the fragment in the next room.

Need more Silksong help? Start with some beginner tips and good rosary bead farming spots, and if locked doors are slowing you down, make sure you’ve tracked down the key locations you’re missing.

It’s also worth pushing the main story between side quests like “Great Taste of Pharloom,” “Broodfeast,” or “Silver Bells,” since breakthroughs there unlock combat upgrades. After “The Threadspun Town,” for example, you can boost your needle’s damage and later enhance it again once you find Pale Oil.
