If you’re chasing softwood in Hytale but can’t tell which trees actually drop it, you’re not the only one. Just like lightwood and darkwood, multiple tree types count—yet the game never really says which, which is… less than helpful.
Here’s where to get softwood in Hytale and what you’ll use it for once you’ve got a stack of logs.
Where to find softwood in Hytale
To cut to the chase, you’re after beech or aspen trees—both give you softwood. You’ll spot them all over the Emerald Wilds (the game’s opening zone), with especially dense patches around the Drifting Plains and Seedling Woods.
Beech trees are everywhere: dark brown trunks, bright green leaves. Aspens are easy to pick out too thanks to their pale, off‑white bark speckled with light brown and those orange canopies. If you’re having trouble spotting them in the world, scan your map for the orange tops; that usually points you right to the aspens.
Bring an axe, take out the bottom block, and—ta‑da—the whole tree comes down so you can scoop up the softwood logs in one go.
Softwood matters early. You’ll need it to upgrade the farmer’s workbench to tier two, and you can run the logs through the builder’s workbench to turn them into planks. From there, you can craft a bunch of decorative and structural bits—stairs, wardrobes, doors, and more—without running out of options anytime soon.
