We played Uno on Houseparty for the latest episode of Overboard

Whatever else is going on in the world (and right now, it’s a lot), there will always be Uno. Even in a year where many Thanksgivings will take place remotely, there’s multiple options to play the inescapable game. Is the game still mostly about random chance? Sure. Is it still fun to snatch an Uno win out from underneath your little brother’s nose? Absolutely.

For the latest episode of our board and card game show Overboard, we tried out the Uno game built into video chat platform Houseparty. It went great! Well, except for the realization that we couldn’t play by our own house rules. Also, someone gets sent to Uno shadow realm for their illegal techniques. Plus there was some… other stuff on our minds while we were recording. We still managed to play about 2.5 games and had a good time, in spite of everything else going on, which is really all we can ask of Uno.

We’ll be taking a little Overboard break until next year, but you can always check out our past episodes over on our YouTube channel. We’ve played a number of games remotely this year and encourage you to play some with your friends and family during this socially distanced holiday season!

At its October 2012 launch as Vox Media's third property, Polygon sought to distinguish itself from competitors by focusing on the stories of the people behind the games instead of the games themselves.
