New Horizons’ Update Coming Tomorrow, Plus Today’s New Releases, Sales, and More – TouchArcade

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for November 18th, 2020. As I expected yesterday, today turned out a bit on the lighter side. Not quite as light as I thought, but still pretty quiet. We’ve got a few news stories to look at, including info on the big Animal Crossing update hitting tomorrow. There are three new releases to check out, and we’ve got summaries of all of those as always. We finish things up with the usual lists of incoming and outgoing sales, and that’s the lot. Let’s have a look, shall we?

News

‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Winter Update is Coming Soon

The next free update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be arriving tomorrow, bringing a bunch of new stuff and added features to the game. It sets up the Turkey Day and Toy Day events, which will see you joining in on the cooking and present-giving respectively. You’ll be able to pay Tom Nook to expand your storage after the update as well. New reactions and hairstyles will be available through the Nook Miles program, and at long last Save Data Transfers will be possible. Probably some catches to that last feature, but at least you don’t have to worry quite so much about losing everything if you need to change your hardware.

‘Bubble Bobble 4 Friends’ Updates with Tons of New Content

Bubble Bobble 4 Friends came out a little while ago, and while it hasn’t gotten a ton of attention I personally found it to be a pleasant, if somewhat conservative, new installment in the series. The game is now coming to other platforms with added content, but Switch owners haven’t been left out. If you update your game, you’ll have access to all the new goodies from the Bubble Bobble 4 Friends: The Baron is Back! release. It doubles up on the stages, making the total a whopping 200, and brings the fan-favorite baddie Baron von Blubba back in a new and very challenging gameplay mode.

Nothing Up the Sleeves of This Week’s ‘Super Smash Bros.’ Event

You know, it’s got to be tricky for the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate people to come up with a decent theme every week. All the obvious stuff has been done long ago, so we end up with some truly strange groupings, like someone is getting creative while playing a game of Guess Who. So yeah, the latest event. It’s a Spirit Board event, and beating up on the featured spirits will earn you more gold than usual. The theme? Characters without sleeves. That covers everything from Donkey Kong Jr to Akira Yuki, so you can look forward to quite the variety. The event kicks off on Friday and runs for the usual three days through the weekend.

New Releases

Nexoria: Dungeon Rogue Heroes ($4.99)

This is another game along the lines of Darkest Dungeon or Slay the Spire. Admittedly, with a more, er, humble scope than those games. So yeah, roguelite dungeon crawl with card battles. Reviews for this one weren’t pretty on other platforms, but it nevertheless has its fans. And at just five dollars, if it has somehow caught your eye it’s not a huge investment to see how things pan out for you and your tastes. At the very least I will tip my hat in appreciation of the classic combo of cute visuals and brutal difficulty.

Flatland: Prologue ($1.99)

More low-priced platforming action from the folks at QUByte and Minimol. This is a full-sized prequel to Flatland Vol. 1, and it serves more or less as another batch of hand-crafted levels to play. I didn’t find the first game particularly amazing or anything, but if you like tough platformers and only have a couple of bucks in your pocket, you could assuredly do a lot worse than either Flatland title.

Truck Driver ($49.99)

Have you ever wanted to drive a truck? Such wild flights of fantasy can be made possible thanks to the marvels of modern technology. Truck Driver puts you in the role of someone who has just inherited a truck from their father, sealing your fate as the next great Truck Driver. That is how it works. Drive around a surprisingly small open world, working with a variety of people and performing various truck-related tasks in order to honor your father and his mighty truck. That is how it works. There’s something here that isn’t entirely dreadful, but there’s a reason this game got mixed reviews on other platforms. This Switch version certainly doesn’t improve on matters.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Hmmm, yeah. There’s definitely a big sale incoming soon. Everything’s just a little too quiet right now, and I know what usually happens after that. Not too much to care about today in the inbox, really. You will want to take a good look at the outbox, however. In particular, ABZU‘s wild 90% off sale is coming to a close. So are the deep discounts on Bandai Namco’s games. Admittedly, Bandai Namco does sales quite often, but some of those titles like the Namco Museum Archives are only occasionally a part of them. I won’t blame you if you want to save some cash for the coming storm, though.

Of the lot, Star Renegades has my attention thus far, but we’ll see what surprises show up. We’ll also have whatever sales come in, and if there’s some kind of huge news we’ll likely have that too. I hope you all have a pleasant Wednesday, and as always, thanks for reading!
