Fighting Game Pro Ricki Ortiz Featured in Absolut Campaign – The Esports Observer|home of essential esports business news and insights

Vodka brand Absolut has launched a new marketing campaign which features four prominent influencers including Evil Geniuses’ fighting game player Ricki Ortiz. Ortiz appears in a commercial spot and extended video for the “It’s In Our Spirit” campaign alongside actress Tessa Thompson, singer Jolin Tsai, and British recording artist Uzoechi Osisioma “Uzo” Emenike, known by his stage name MNEK. According to a tweet from Ortiz, the campaign celebrates “diversity & the importance of togetherness in many forms.” Each of the four featured influencers are regarded as notable LGBTQ figures or advocates in their fields.

As a transgender woman and a longtime fighting game competitor, Ortiz has been one of the most prominent LGBTQ figures in the esports space for many years. At the Esports Rising digital conference on Thursday, Evil Geniuses CEO Nicole LaPointe Jameson spoke about the campaign and the ability to promote social issues through the fighting game community.

“One thing that’s very fascinating about the FGC community and fan base is they skew much more progressive, diverse and tolerant than a lot of others, even what you would assume exists in gaming.”
