Oxygen Esports Enters India Ahead of PUBG Mobile Return – The Esports Observer|home of essential esports business news and insights

New England based esport organization, Oxygen Esports announced its plans to enter the PUBG Mobile space in India by picking up former Fnatic player Harpreet Singh ‘Ronak’ Janjuha as its first member. This will be the organization’s first foray into Asia and into a mobile title.

The Indian esport ecosystem received a big boost with Krafton announcing the release of PUBG Mobile India along with an investment of $100M to grow esports in the region. The Indian government’s decision to ban the title in September had put a halt on things in the region, and limited both growth and investment from local as well as foreign entities. However, with the new version of the game set to go live soon, there is renewed interest in the game and the region.

Krafton’s plans include a comprehensive esport ecosystem for the region given that India was its biggest market. The region boasted the highest player base and viewership prior to the game’s ban. Fnatic, Team Solomid, Nova Esports, and Galaxy Racer are currently operating PUBG Mobile rosters in the region and held onto their teams despite two months of non-activity. Now, with an unban in the cards, new organizations such as Team Vitality have already announced their plans to set up operations in the region.

Oxygen is famous for its Rainbow Six Siege team, which it acquired after Reciprocity disbanded. The organization also operates rosters in Rocket League, Fortnite, Hearthstone, and Magic the Gathering.
