Complete Calvin & Hobbes box set is on sale on Amazon

Somebody must be wearing their lucky rocketship underpants today, because fans of Calvin & Hobbes can grab The Complete Calvin & Hobbes, the only complete collection of the long-running comic strip, for way less than list price on Amazon.

Originally released in 2005, the boxed set includes every strip of Bill Watterson’s famous comic about a boy and his stuffed tiger. The three-volume hardcover package usually retails for $195, but Amazon has knocked the price down to $140.49 at the moment. The four-volume paperback edition, released in 2012, is even more steeply discounted, from a list price of $125 down to $63.36 — nearly half off. Each set comes in a Spaceman Spiffy collector’s box.

Calvin & Hobbes ran from 1985 to 1996, when Watterson elected to go out on a high note rather than fade away. The famously reclusive cartoonist has kept to himself in the years since, and has also declined to license any merchandise from his creation. That’s a rarity in the strip comic world, so if you’re looking for a gift for a C&H fan or just a fan of good comics, The Complete Calvin & Hobbes will definitely delight — though you might have to wait for it. The hardcover edition is temporarily out of stock.
