Genesis Noir is a noir detective game blending jazz and astrophysics, and it launches this month

Every so often, I find it hard to pass by a game’s description without performing a double take. At first glance, Genesis Noir looks like neat, little puzzle game. It embraces the classic detective noir genre, while offering an artistic twist. But such a safe formula clearly wasn’t in the cards for developer Feral Cat Den. Genesis Noir is an eclectic mix of puzzles, jazz music, romance, and astrophysics, in an adventure that promises to take you beyond the stars, and it launches for Steam and the Epic Games Store on March 26.

If that rundown of the game also caused you to “bwuh?” out loud, welcome to the party. Well, hold to your butts, because it’s about to get weirder. You play Genesis Noir as “No Man,” a watch seller who darts through the cosmos, peering at black holes and the early creation of Earth, while stopping for breaks at jazz cafes. It all begins with the Big Bang. A literal gunshot fired by a god following the inevitable conclusion of a fierce love triangle involving cosmic beings. Still with me? The game itself, however, is about exploration and using your wits to complete puzzles. That almost sounds mundane compared to the game’s story. However, I have a feeling the other elements will be just as trippy.

“Witness the birth and history of mankind,” the game description reads. “Find comfort in a glass of gin. Become acquainted with the massive, the microscopic, and everything in between. Dial a rotary phone; destroy a civilization; plant a garden; improvise with a musician; create life—all in your search for a way to save Miss Mass.”

Genesis Noir launches jazz and puzzles to the outer realms

Genesis Noir will also be available for a welcome price. The game will be available for $14.99 USD on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. However, you can pick it up as part of the Cosmic Collection for $27.99 USD (on sale now at 20% off). The collection includes the game, soundtrack, and digital art book.
