Sony Interactive Entertainment Acquires Evolution Championship Series – The Esports Observer

The leading annual fighting game tournament brand Evo has been acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment and RTS through a joint venture partnership. The new strategic group will present Evo 20201 Online later this year, the first fully online Evo event since the cancelation of Evo 2020 last year.

While Sony owns the Playstation platform on which many fighting games are played, Evo’s Mark Julio confirmed that the tournament will continue to offer events across all gaming platforms.

Evo co-founders Tony and Tom Cannon will remain involved with the tournament brand as key advisors.

RTS is a new esports venture backed by a group of investors including entertainment company Endeavor. It is led by former Endeavor SVP of esports Stuart Saw.
