‘Unmaze’ is a Unique New Narrative Game from ARTE that’s Based on the Myth of the Minotaur, Coming to Mobile this Summer – TouchArcade

ARTE seems to always have a hand in something extremely cool, as they’re responsible for bringing some of the more interesting and unique titles to mobile over the years, such as Homo Machina, Vandals, Type:Rider, and more. And that trend doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon, as their latest collaboration is with Upian and Hiver Prod and it’s for a new narrative game called Unmaze. The story is inspired by the story of Theseus and the Minotaur in Greek Mythology, and can probably best be described as a type of interactive novel. You’ll play as Ariadne who is attempting to help guide both Theseus and Asterion, the name of the minotaur, out of the labyrinth to safety. The only problem is that she can’t be in two places at once, and so the more time she spends helping one, the more danger the other ends up in. It’ll be a difficult balance trying to save them both.

As you can see you’ll communicate with both characters using multiple dialogue options, and unless I’m completely misunderstanding the game’s press release, it appears that Unmaze will use your mobile device’s ambient light sensor as part of the gameplay. When you’re in the dark, you’ll be able to communicate with and help Asterion. When you’re in the light, you’ll be helping Theseus. It’s a pretty clever idea that I haven’t seen used in a gaming sense before, and I’ll be really interested to see how it’s actually implemented and how it adds to (or detracts from) the experience when I get my hands on it. There’s no specific date of when that will be beyond this summer, but this one sounds very interesting and we’ll be sure to let you know once Unmaze gets an official release date.
