The Wild Rift SEA Icon Series is said to be the first Wild Rift tournament produced by Riot Games Southeast Asia in the region. In total, 64 teams will compete for a chance to make it into the group stages. The top four teams from the group stage will qualify for the finals which may be held offline depending on local COVID-19 restrictions.

Bruce Lam, Managing Director of Consumer Mobile at CSL Mobile, added: “CSL Mobile is dedicated to promoting competitive esports in Hong Kong. We hope to provide CSL’s 5G mobile network to gamers through our partnership with Talon Esports and Riot Games, as well as nurture elite players that can represent Hong Kong in the international arena.”

In December 2020, it was revealed that tournament organiser ESL had been appointed by Riot Games to operate Wild Rift tournaments in Malaysia and Thailand for the entirety of 2021.

Esports Insider says: Considering its history in mobile esports, it’s no surprise to see Riot Games utilise Talon Esports to promote Wild Rift esports in Hong Kong. As League of Legends: Wild Rift continues to grow in popularity, cultivating the best talent and hosting a tournament in the region is a great move from Riot Games, which is moving quickly to lay the foundations for the esport to grow across the globe.
