Ritual of the Night sequel confirmed to be in the works

It’s official. Publisher 505 Games and developer Artplay confirmed on their Twitter account a sequel for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is on the way. This news follows a recent financial report released by the publisher, which included some sales information about the original game and indicated the existence of a “second version in development.”

Don’t expect the game to release anytime soon, though. The tweet points out the sequel is in “very early planning stages” and is unlikely to release soon. Instead, the developer is focusing its resources on completing new content for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, so any follow up to the game is very far off.

It’s not a surprise a sequel is in development. Crowdfunded by producer Koji Igarashi through Kickstarter, the Castlevania-style side scroller was a huge success, selling more than 1 million copies with $36 million USD in revenue. For those who backed this project, the prospect of a new game is encouraging, and the popularity is clearly there.

It’s not quite over yet

For now, fans should expect to continue spending time with the original. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has already received some post-release content. Earlier this year, a new Classic Mode was released as free DLC, giving the game an older, retro Metroidvania style. As a “direct homage to the original Castlevania,” the mode gave players won over those infatuated with its NES-inspired style.

It’s a classic!

Additionally, Artplay released a development roadmap back in January, so it’s likely some of the planned new content can be found there. Some of the upcoming features listed in the roadmap are the new Chaos and Vs. Modes, as well as new playable characters and improvements to existing gameplay elements like the Randomizer. You can also check out the spin-offs Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon and Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2.
